The current government building is a reproduction of the building designed by Chambiges and de Cortone during the Renaissance, which caught fire during the 1871 Commune episode. Although the building still houses Paris government offices, it is also famous for the many exhibitions held there. In particular, there is an exhibition on the history of Paris's institutions. In addition, its splendid rooms are open to the public. In the winter, Parisians and tourists alike have been coming to enjoy the large ice rink for many years. In the summer, the rink makes way for a large stage for concerts.
