Green and peaceful, its gardens and the wide, majestic, tree-lined avenues provide a picturesque contrast with the very old Rue Saint-Jacques. The district is dominated by the dome of the Abbaye du Val de Grâce, commissioned in 1624 by Anne of Austria, the wife of Louis XIII, an act of thanks to God for having finally sent them a son, the future Louis XIV. Since 1793, it has been a military hospital where a room is now reserved for the President of the Republic.
