With more than 30 million passengers every year, the station is the terminus for the southeast and Mediterranean rail network. The district is both residential and commercial, and also has a lot of offices. vThe Gare de Lyon station, constructed for the 1900 World's Fair, is famous for its belfry, a square 220-foot tower with a clock measuring almost 23 feet in diameter. Inside the station, each city served by the network is represented by a coat of arms at the top of the columns.
