Porte de Clignancourt first held a scrap metal fair in 1885, which gradually turned into a flea market. After World War I (1914-1918), the Vernaison market was created, comprising prefabricated stands leased to second-hand goods dealers. The Marché Biron and Marché Malik followed. The bourgeois classes began to frequent the place and bargain hunting became all the rage. Over the years, other sectors opened up, and Clignancourt’s Marché aux Puces became famous the world over.
