A perfect neighborhood for families
Private paths with many different feels and settings run through the blocks. Most are open to the public during business hours. Enjoy a Sunday strolls along the verdant, flower-lined paths of the Jardin des Plantes. A former working class, industrial district, Austerlitz was home to all sorts of warehouses, factories, and plants in the 1850s. Its other name the Gare district, refers to a shipyard that Louis XV decided to build.
What are the must-see?
Right in the heart of the district, the Jardin des Plantes is a popular destination for families! In this great space dedicated to fauna and flora, there are four large greenhouses, a rose garden, and a menagerie. Children love this mini-zoo, which houses more than 1,000 different animals: monkeys, rodents, reptiles, birds, insects, and more. Also great for families, the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (National Museum of Natural History) has one of its sites within the confines of the Jardin des Plantes. Exhibits include skeletons and models of prehistoric and modern-day animals.
An easily accessed area
In addition to the SNCF station, Austerlitz station has connections to metro lines 5 and 10, as well as with the RER C. A public walkway links the station to Gare de Lyon train station, which serves all four corners of the capital.
