Once a village, now a symbol of modern society

Situated in west Paris between the Trocadéro and the Bois de Boulogne, the Maison de la Radio district lies on the right bank of the Seine. However, for centuries the surrounding area was primarily rural, outside the limits of Paris. The arrondissement was created when the towns of Auteuil and Passy were annexed in 1860. It is a bourgeois district occupied by the capital's most affluent. It is also very popular for its green spaces, which provide a space to breathe despite its dense population.

Things to see in the area

The Maison de la Radio opened in 1963 and is the headquarters of French public radio. Designed by the architect Henry Bernard, General de Gaulle saw it as a sign of the cohesion of radio.

The Radio France Museum is open to visitors and retraces the history of the transmission of information since ancient times. Heading towards the Trocadéro, you will come across the modest residence of the illustrious writer Honoré de Balzac. Listed as a historic monument, the building still contains the manuscripts and letters that belonged to Balzac.

Transportation and services

The district is served by the RER C at Avenue du Président Kennedy station. The most accessible means of transport is the bus station, as the nearest metro station is at Passy (line 6). While the district is primarily known for its office buildings, there are a few restaurants in the area, and local services are available.
