A new district in the capital

Set apart from the bustling Latin Quarter, Les Gobelins is defined by its modern architecture. The iconic towers, built during Georges Pompidou's presidency in the early 1970s, are well-known landmarks in the capital.

Places of interest around Les Gobelins

The Manufacture des Gobelins factory was founded more than 600 years ago when the dyer Jean Gobelin set up his tapestry business which quickly grew, and the manufacture of royal furniture began in 1667. Opposite, at 33 Rue Croulebarbe, Paris's first skyscraper was erected in 1960. The district also has many squares and other green spaces where artists' workshops are often based, such as the Cité Fleurie.

Metro line 7 stops at Gobelins station and Place d'Italie, connecting through to lines 5 and 6 aswell. Near the main intersection, there are also local stores and boutiques for shopping.
