The legendary Paris-Méditerranée station

With more than 30 million passengers every year, the station is the terminus for the southeast and Mediterranean rail network. The district is both residential and commercial, and also has a lot of offices. The Gare de Lyon station, constructed for the 1900 World's Fair, is famous for its belfry, a square 220-foot tower with a clock measuring almost 23 feet in diameter. Inside the station, each city served by the network is represented by a coat of arms at the top of the columns.

An entertaining neighborhood, day and night

In the hall of the Gare de Lyon there is a second empire baroque-style restaurant called Le Train Bleu which was constructed for the 1900 World's Fair and sends you straight back to the Belle Époque. Inside, the decor looks that of a museum, with sculptures, gilding, molding, paintings, frescoes, chandeliers, and furniture from the era kept in perfect condition. The district is made up of businesses, trendy establishments, and typical Parisian brasseries at the Marché d’Aligre, between Faubourg Saint-Antoine and Rue de Charenton.

The station, the heart of the district

The Gare de Lyon district is accessible via its station. Lines 1 and 14 of the metro and both the RER A and D stop here. Quai de la Rapée metro station, not far from the train station, also serves the area via line 5.
