History will remember that this village was part of the commune of Pantin for many years. It won its independence in a battle led by its inhabitants in 1588. It is also on the Belvédère hill that Jean Jaurès gave his famous speech about Peace on the eve of World War I.
When history flow through water
Water has always reigned supreme in this neighborhood Pré St Gervais is so named because the Eglise Sainte-Famille has a relic of St Gervais, a martyr from Milan. The relic was a gift from the Saint-Denis monastery. In the 13th Century, an aqueduct was built by the Saint Lazare Priory to route the water. Four gauge basins can still be visited today: the Trou Marin, located on Sente des Cornettes, and the Regard du Bernage, located on Avenue du Belvédère.
